Travel Deal of the Day (June 15, 2009)

The bad economy has created incredible Hawaii deals - here is an excellent deal in Oahu.

The Deal:
BiddingForTravel (one of a few websites dedicated to reporting winning Priceline bids for hotels) is reporting that the four to five star Ihilani Resort in Oahu is available for $100/night (plus taxes and fees) via bidding on Priceline. The Ihilani Resort has not offered such low Priceline rates in years. The resort is very nice, especially at this price, and this is a deal you should consider if you would enjoy a trip to Oahu.

How:
See this post for more information.

The Inside Scoop:
Note that the Ihilani does charge approximately $25/night for parking - so budget accordingly.

Travel Deal of the Day (March 27, 2009)

Here are two Washington, DC area deals:

(1) If you are contemplating a visit for the Washington, DC Cherry Blossom festival over the next two weeks, there are still good deals on hotel rooms. To save the most money, I would use:
Priceline, Hotwire or LastMinute (providing last minute packages including air/hotel, air/car, hotel/car or air/hotel/car). Because of the bad economy, you may find numerous great deals this year for what is normally a high-demand and expensive period to visit DC.

(2) If you are looking to stay in the Washington, DC area for an extended time this summer, the Marriott Residence Inn in downtown Bethesda, MD is offering an entire suite/apartment including kitchen, bedroom, living room and bathroom as well as free internet and free American breakfast for around $83/night for AAA members. The rate is valid on Thursday-Sunday nights with a three night minimum stay. This is an excellent deal for an extremely convenient hotel that is walking distance to the Metro. Full rules/restrictions and booking details can be found here. (Though the link states rooms start at $97/night, I have found suites with King beds starting at $83/night.)

Travel Deal of the Day (September 9, 2008)

Another travel deal blog, Frugal Travel Guy, has listed a great deal:

The Deal:
20% off of Marriott hotels for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. You must book by September 22, 2008 for stays through December 21, 2008. I have looked at the hotel rates using this promotion, and this discount appears to be taking 20% off of the best rates at many Marriott hotels. Be sure to read the rate rules for any room you consider purchasing.

How:
Go to the Marriott 20% Off Fall Deal.

Travel Deal of the Day (June 3, 2008)

Marriott has a very good deal for weekend stays at Marriott hotels in the Washington, DC area.

The Deal:
Marriott is offering all members of its frequent stay program (Marriott Rewards) 25% off of its already discounted weekend rates for stays until September 1, 2008. In addition, if you are an “elite” member of Marriott Rewards (which is obtainable either by simply having a Marriott Visa card or staying at least 10 nights at a Marriott hotel within that last 12 months), you will also receive a $50 Bonus Buck (gift certificate) for your next stay.

How:
For the rate for non-elite Marriott Rewards members, use the code “M11” when making your reservation at Marriott.com or at (800) 228-9290. For the rate for elite Marriott Rewards members, use the code “E0S” when making your reservation at Marriott.com or at (800) 228-9290.

The Inside Scoop:
I found rates at some nice three and four star Marriott hotels in Washington, DC for under $100/night. If you factor in the $50 gift certificate, the rates for a one-night stay are excellent (under $50/night, if you include the value of the gift certificate) especially in an expensive city such as Washington, DC.

Travel Deal of the Day (December 28, 2007)

If you are dreaming of a Hawaiian vacation in 2008, here is a deal to help you make that dream a reality.

The Deal:
The Marriott in Waikiki (Oahu) is offering a fourth night free when paying for three nights. The deal also includes free breakfast and a room upgrade. Be sure to check whether the non-package rates for your dates sum to a lower amount (for four nights) than three nights using this package.

Travel Deal of the Day (October 9, 2007)

Marriott is offering bonus points in its Marriott Rewards frequent guest club for referring others to the program.

The Deal:
Receive 1,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points for each stay at a Marriott Hotel by a friend that was referred by you to the Marriott Rewards program. You may refer up to five friends a year, and you may receive credit for up to five stays per friend per year.

How:
Go to the Marriott Rewards Referral Deal.

Thursday, September 20, 2007

Travel Deal of the Day (September 20, 2007)

If you are booking a Marriott hotel, you should look into Marriott Rewards special rates.

The Deal:
Marriott does not always publish the existence of Marriott Rewards Club special rates, but these rates are often available at quite a discount when compared with standard rates. Marriott Rewards is Marriott’s frequent guest club (free membership). During a recent search for hotel rates at a resort destination, very few discounts were available, but the hotel had discounted its rates 30% under the Marriott Rewards plan.

How:
To find Marriott Rewards rates, use the code “M11” when checking for rates at http://www.marriott.com/. To join Marriott Rewards, go to http://www.marriottrewards.com/. Please note, you must join Marriott Rewards before using a Marriott Rewards rate.

Marriott and Hertz have extended their buy two nights, get one night free promotion through the end of the year – including the Thanksgiving and December holidays.

The Deal:
Stay Two Nights, Get the Third Night Free at Participating Marriott Hotels and Resorts.

How:
1) Go to the Marriott/Hertz Deal.

2) Find an available hotel and click "Show Rates & Rooms" to find all available rooms.

3) When booking, ensure that the “rate rules” (which should be displayed before confirming the reservation) state that the Hertz promotion applies for the dates you requested. Print those rate rules to ensure you receive the appropriate discount at check-out.

4) According to the rules, the hotel will charge you for all three nights, then subtract the final night off of your bill at check-out.

The Inside Scoop:
1) The terms of the offer require you to rent a car with Hertz to be eligible for the deal, but the Hertz rental does not have to be at the same time as your hotel stay.

2) If you are staying more than just a weekend, try checking rates for three weekend nights using this promotion and then checking rates using some other discount for the other nights of your stay.

Travel Deal of the Day (May 31, 2007)

Dining at nice resorts is expensive. Especially in very expensive cities such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, London and Honolulu, dinner for two can easily be as expensive as a night in a hotel.

The Deal:
Marriott offers prepaid certificates for dinner for two people, which include: appetizer, salad, entrée, dessert, and unlimited non-alcoholic beverages. The certificates are $99 (for dinner for both people) and are a great deal if you are in a very expensive city. You do not even have to stay at a Marriott hotel to use the certificate for dinner.

How:
Go to the Marriott Dinner For Two page.

The Inside Scoop:
Marriott knows this is an extraordinary deal in super expensive cities, so Marriott has blacked out some of the most expensive restaurants in the most expensive cities such as New York City and Honolulu. However, there are still quite a few Marriott restaurants even in the most expensive cities which will accept these certificates. For instance, though one expensive restaurant at the JW Marriott in Ko Olina (Oahu) is excluded from this certificate, there are still other expensive restaurants at the JW participating with the certificate as well as all restaurants at the Marriott in Waikiki.
