I'll admit it - I used to always book the smallest car when booking a car rental in an attempt to save money.  You know that tiny car that the car rental company really does not want to rent - I would take it.  Well, that might not be the smartest decision anymore.  Car rental companies frequently have car rental coupons that are only good on some of those larger cars.  (Here is one example - if you rent the "luxury" class car with Hertz, you get $50 off for a week - see Hertz Coupon.)  Many times, the larger car with a car rental coupon is actually cheaper than a smaller car witthout a coupon.  Check it out on your next rental.

Hertz Car Rental is offering various promotions for one-way car rentals. In the past, Hertz tended to be quite expensive for one-way rentals, however Hertz has been offering additional specials recently targeting one-way rentals. Hertz is offering up to $50 off weekly rates at its Orlando Airport location for Luxury class (or higher level) cars. Travel Deal of the Day (May 21, 2010)

If you are 21-24 and are paying underage fees to rent a car, you should know that there are alternatives that allow you to avoid such fees. As summer break/vacation approaches for many people in this age category, recognize that such fees are often waived or reduced for members of a frequent car rental club. Also, some car rental companies offer special promotions that waive underage fees. In addition, if you have a corporate discount number, sometimes underage fees are waived when using that discount. Here is one example of a situation when a car rental company has waived its fees:

Travel Deal of the Day (May 6, 2010)

As gas prices increase, remember to check prices of larger cars in addition to smaller cars to find the best deal. Quite often when gas prices increase rapidly, car rental companies see increased demand for compact-sized cars and decreased demand for smaller cars, causing the prices of larger cars to decrease. Remember to check prices for these larger cars when searching for a rental car - you may save quite a bit of money on your rental. Also note that a free upgrade to a hybrid car can also save you money due to the gas savings.

National Car Rental is offering very inexpensive one-way car rentals from Florida in an effort to move its cars for the summer out of Florida. Rates for compact and midside cars start at $10/day (plus tax/fees), and rates for fullsize cars start at $12/day (plus tax/fees). If you are under 25 and ever rent cars, you know that car rental companies often add a surcharge for renters under 25. Hertz has a special through the end of March 2010 waiving that fee.

The Deal:
