Travel Deal of the Day (July 29, 2010)
If you are looking for airfares between the US and Europe, the nataural tendency is to focus on airfares offered by US and European airlines. However, the best deals are often offered by carriers that operate connecting service between the US and Europe via a third country. Examples include Icelandair and Air Canada. Often, to gain traffic flying via their hubs, these carriers will offer extremely competitive prices, especially in business class. The best offers may be available only when checking these airlines' own websites - so be sure to go beyond just a single travel search engine when checking airfares. Be sure to think outside the box and check airfares with carriers that might not first come to mind - you may save a lot of money by being more flexible with your travel itinerary.

Travel Deal of the Day (July 19, 2010)
Before you go on your next vacation, check out the gift card section of your favorite warehouse club (Costco, BJs, Sam's Club). Warehouse clubs often sell discounted gift cards for travel providers and restaurants that can save you money on your next vacation. The selection of gift cards changes frequently, but Costco has been known to sell (at a substantial discount) gift cards for hotel chains (such as Hyatt), spas located throughout the United States and even for small hotels/inns. You can save quite a bit of money by checking out the gift cards available before you depart on your next trip.
Be sure to also check for available restaurant gift cards. If you know you will be eating out for most or all of your meals and you know which restaurants are convenient to your particular vacation destination, be sure to check if your favorite warehouse club sells a discounted gift card to that restaurant.

Are you traveling for Thanksgiving? If the answer is yes, start thinking about booking your trip now. It may seem early, but especially if you are traveling on the most in-demand days around Thanksgiving (Tuesday or Wednesday before and Sunday after Thanksgiving), the prices will only increase as Thanksgiving approaches. Book you trip now. Be sure to check out alternative airports (use a "flexible" search that looks for airfares into airports within a certain mileage of your preferred airport).

Travel Deal of the Day (July 1, 2010)
Hotel parking rates can be outrageous - in some cities, it is common to see $30/day parking rates. It may pay for you to check around for parking alternatives to save some money on your next trip. Here are some good ways to find the best parking deals:
(1) Call the concierge. Though the bell desk or front desk may provide you the default answer that the hotel's overpriced parking is the best alternative, a good concierge knows about parking rates in the vicinity of the hotel and can give you good alternatives.
(2) Call a store located near the hotel. Stores that are located in busy areas are used to hearing questions from customers regarding affordable ways to find parking. Store clerks can often provide alternatives that you would otherwise not hear about during your trip.
(3) Call local parking garages. Parking garages may have special deals for overnight or early bird parking. You may also be able to work out a multi-day deal with a parking garage (that may have quite a bit cheaper than parking at your hotel).
