Travel Deal of the Day (November 25, 2009)

After Thanksgiving weekend, get ready for some incredible travel deals. There is very little leisure travel demand during the two weeks following Thanksgiving because kids are in school and many people, if they are going on vacation, will travel during Thanksgiving or the late December holidays. This year, two additional factors will decrease travel demand - (1) the recession and (2) the H1N1 flu. The first two weeks of December are the perfect time to travel, if you want to find a deal. Watch out for incredible last minute travel deals, especially on websites such as Last Minute and TravelZoo. Also, watch the last minute travel specials on airline, hotel and car rental websites - you may find incredible deals.

Travel Deal of the Day (November 24, 2009)

Travel Deal of the Day (November 18, 2009)

If you have always dreamed of a New Year's Eve trip to an exciting location (New York City, Las Vegas, etc.), you may want to consider taking that trip this year. Due to the slagging economy and a variety of other factors (such as the H1N1 flu), travel demand is down this year. There is a greater likelihood this year that the normally sky-high prices on New Year's Eve in prime destinations will be much lower this year. Rates over New Year's Eve in exotic locations will still be high, but probably not quite as high as other years. Travel Deal of the Day (November 17, 2009)

HawaiianMiles members earn a $25 e-certificate (for two passengers) when booking a roundtrip transpacific trip until December 7, 2009 for travel January 5, 2010 to March 11, 2010. Travel Deal of the Day (November 10, 2010)

It is the season of gift cards - and the travel industry is no different than any other sector of the economy. Travel providers of all types will likely be trying to convince you to buy gift cards for the holiday season. Be sure to consider the financial stability of the company offering the gift card as you want the travel provider to be in business when the gift card is redeemed. With that being said, note that many sellers of gift cards may offer a bonus that may make a gift card purchase worthwhile, even if you are purchasing the card for yourself.

The Deal:
Before your next travel purchase, inquire whether a gift card purchase may help you reduce the total cost of your purchase. Many retailers will now offer some sort of bonus for purchasing a gift card - such as offering to provide a gift card worth $25 when spending $20. If you know you will use that travel provider, it may be cost effective for you to purchase the gift card for yourself to obtain services from that provider at a "discount." Be sure to note the above caveat and all rules/restrictions associated with the gift card.
