Travel Deal of the Day (May 1, 2009)

There are some excellent car rental deals in Florida right now. If you are interested in a one-way rental, there are unique opportunities when renting a car in Florida.

The Deal:
At most non-Florida locations, when you pick up a car in one location and drop it off in another location, you are likely to pay either a very high daily rate or a large "drop off" fee associated with the cost to the car rental company to return the car to the place where you originally picked up the car. In Florida, you will likely pay the same price for a one-way rental as you would for a traditional rental. Note this when you plan a Florida trip as you may be able to see a larger area of Florida.

There are also unique deals when picking up a car in Florida and dropping the car off elsewhere in the United States. Hertz, for instance, has a deal (see this link) that provides discounted rates when picking up in Florida and dropping off at participating locations elsewhere in the US. The car rental companies are willing to offer such discounts to you as they need to move the cars out of Florida for the summer months. Be sure to look out for these kinds of deals if you need to travel one-way from Florida.
